Your Resource For Local Family Fun

Spotlight on Woodway Family Center

At the end of Estates Drive, nestled in a grove of trees, is Woodway Family Center’s new building, which is set to be a hub for sports and fun for families all over Central Texas. The WFC has been a part of the community for 30 years, and its new building will help the center offer even more programs than before.

“The city council has been planning [a new center] for a number of years,” said Jimmy Rogers, WFC’s superintendent. “Construction began in November of 2022 and ended in March of this year. We had our grand opening on April 6.”

The new building has two full-sized courts and more space for additional programming that includes STEAM activities like art, music, and technology classes.

“We’ll also be offering other physical activity classes like golf and archery outside of the big five sports (volleyball, baseball, soccer, and football),” Rogers said.

The instructional classes are designed to introduce new players to those sports as well as develop skills in those respective sports.

“I think families should choose Woodway Family Center because it is a family-oriented, fun environment where kids can flourish in sports in a non-competitive environment,” Rogers said.

The superintendent said the building is great, but WFC’s biggest focus is on the programs and creating a safe atmosphere for kids to enjoy extracurricular activities.

“I think what we do is unparalleled,” Rogers said. “Nobody else is doing it this way.”

The center serves over 1,000 families in the Woodway/Waco/Hewitt every year, teaching kids the basics of competition and fundamentals in various sports, with an emphasis on fun and sportsmanship.
