In a colorful storefront in the Central Texas Market Place, off of Highway 6 in Waco, TX, is a place where kids can pretend to drive motorized cars, play video games and be made up like a princess. It’s called Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids, and it has become one of the most popular children’s barbers in the area.
“There’s nothing like Sharkey’s in the Waco area,” said Sharkey’s owner, Joel Worthington. “Sharkey’s specializes in everything from a first haircut all the way up to tween and teen haircuts.”
Worthington and his wife first learned about the Sharkey’s franchise through their work with Neighborly. They realized that the unique approach to children’s haircuts would be a great fit for Waco families.
Now, children and their parents can come into Sharkey’s for a cut and some play time. But Sharkey’s isn’t your typical salon. It boasts 
several packages and options for kids of all ages and even parents.
Girls can get a wash, cut, blow-dry, enjoy the Tween Lounge that comes with a mini-cure and choice of rings, a balloon and a lollipop. While boys can get a wash, cut, blow-dry and enjoy game time on an Xbox One.
You can also book your little girl for a Day of Beauty Spa Package that includes hair, nails, and makeup in Sharkey’s “Tween Lounge” for one hour.
Along with kid-friendly haircuts and spa treatments, Sharkey’s also offers birthday parties after the salon closes during the week and on weekends.
“The parties are usually dress-up themed where girls can be made into princesses with hair, makeup and nails, and little boys can be made up into pirates or knights,” Worthington said.
Each party includes at least one stylist and two to three other employees to help with the party guests.
Worthington said all the salon’s bells and whistles make getting a haircut a fun event that kids want to experience again and again.
The owner said he appreciates those who have already tried Sharkey’s for their children’s salon needs, and he hopes that more families will check out the business.
“We always have special pricing on parent and child haircuts, and sometimes we’ll run specials for adults during the week before 3 p.m.,” he said. “We’d love for them to come in and experience Sharkey’s with their child.”
