Hooray for 20 years! Our publication has been a fixture in the community for two decades, thanks to the support of Central Texas families. Publisher, Michele Berger reflects on how the magazine has evolved over time and how consistency and dependability have kept the presses pressing when it comes to Hooray for Family.
“When I started (in 2002) there was nothing like [Hooray for Family] in Waco,” she said. “I was a young mother with small children and wanted one place where I could find resources. So, I created a resource guide completely designed for parents.”
The publication helps families find everything from fun birthday party venues to summer camp opportunities to the best doctors and dentists in the area, and many more.
And some of those businesses have been with the publication since the beginning. Berger wants to give a special shoutout to: Smarty Pants, Flips Gymnastics, Family Martial Arts, Joy’s School of Dance and Texas Dynasty for their continued support.
“Over the years we’ve developed friendships with our advertisers,” she said. “Those friendships have come out of our consistency and dependability. I hear all the time that we’re easy to work with.”
Hooray for Family has helped countless small businesses get off the ground by providing an affordable vehicle to advertise their goods and services. And those businesses have thrived and grown because of that exposure.

But it’s not just mom and pop businesses that benefit from Hooray for Family. It’s also the parents and families that call Central Texas home. When they pick up one of the 15,000 copies that are distributed monthly in McLennan and Bell Counties, they are connected to the resources they need as well as giveaways and fun, family events.
“We’ve been giving away something every Wednesday (on “It’s Hooray for WINSday!”) for ten years,” Berger said. “And we send out a weekly newsletter that is full of events for kids for the upcoming week.”
