When Tricia Green was expecting her first grandson, she realized that there weren’t many options when it came to affordable, one-of-a-kind boutique clothing for boys. So, she decided to start her own business that would not only include hard-to-find items for her grandson, but for boys and girls all over the country.
In 2014, Green and her two daughters opened a small booth called Gigi’s Tiny Treasures (a nod to her grandma name) at an existing boutique in McGregor.
“We ran the booth for a couple of years, and every couple of months we would grow our inventory just a little bit more,” she said.
While the former kindergarten teacher’s booth was taking off, two buildings in quaint downtown McGregor became available. It seemed like the perfect opportunity for Green and her daughters to expand their burgeoning business.
“They were just two run-down, falling apart buildings that we took about six months to fix up and redo,” she said. “We opened the new storefront two years ago, and we’ve been there ever since.”
Gigi’s carries clothes for infants and children up to size 7/8, shoes, and equipment you need for baby. Her daughter Kaleigh also leases part of the store and sells women’s clothing, gifts, jewelry and purses.
Not only does the family-owned boutique sell their wares inside their colorful storefront, but they also take their products on the road inside their 24-foot trailer and ship their merchandise all over the country.
“We have shipped [our items] to every state,” Green said. “We’ve kept up with that by putting pins on a map. We’ve even shipped to
Europe.”
While the store owner concentrates heavily on the Gigi’s Facebook group where she offers deals on merchandise and introduces new products, much of her business comes from people seeing her clothing out and about.
“I get a lot of customers who say, ‘I saw somebody wearing your clothes and asked them where they got them,’” Green said.
For the dedicated mother and grandmother, the business is not only a way to help moms find cute, one-of-a-kind clothing for their little ones, but it is also a chance to spend quality time with her family.
“I really want people to know that [the store] is run by us,” she said. “It’s a small-town business run by a family.”
