On June 24, 1873, famed author Mark Twain, patented the scrapbook. Since then, the scrapbook has evolved to become a billion dollar industry that has spawned clubs, conventions and retreats geared specifically to those who love to “scrap.”
In honor of Twain’s invention, here are some ideas to help you use that leftover scrapbook paper if it never quite makes it into your scrapbook.
1. Holiday Décor
Why not create a piece of holiday magic with a few sheets of scrapbook paper, Mod Podge and some wooden letters. This crafter used Halloween-themed paper to create a frightening and adorable “Boo” sign that is sure to give tick-or-treaters a thrill.
2. Colorful Journal
Covering a composition journal from the dollar store with some scrapbook paper and a few embellishments (like ribbon or buttons) is a great way to dress up an inexpensive find. You can use it to keep your running to-do list or give it as a gift.
3. Magnet Board
Whether you use a magnet board to hang pictures, cards or invitations, having a magnet board to display these items would be handy and helpful. All it takes to create your own is a dollar store cookie sheet, some scrapbook paper and some ribbon.
4. Artwork
Do you have a wall that just needs something, but you don’t know what? Try creating one-of-a-kind artwork by attaching the paper to wooden blocks and hanging them on the wall. This blogger created a focal point for her dining room by utilizing this method.
5. Weekly Calendar
What busy family doesn’t need a weekly calendar to keep track of everyone’s camps, lessons and extracurricular activities? With an inexpensive frame, a few sheets of scrapbook paper and some dry erase markers, you can create your own calendar that will match your décor.
6. Gift Bag
Have you ever ran to the grocery store to get a gift bag for a birthday party and wished they weren’t so expensive? Then, why not make your own? With just a few sheets of scrapbook paper and some ribbon, you can create a gift bag that will be sure to please the gift receiver and your wallet.
7. Jewelry
Did you know you can turn scrapbook paper into jewelry? With this tutorial, you can turn your favorite printed paper into dazzling jewelry that can be created to coordinate with any outfit.
8. Decorative ABCs
If your child is learning their alphabet, or if you just want a great way to add to your child’s bedroom décor, then try creating these adorable ABC wall-hangings with scrapbook paper and Mod Podge.
9. Coasters
Have you ever been given a potted plant (that you may or may not have killed) and are left with terra cotta saucers that are now without purpose? Why not turn them into coasters with a little paint, felt and scrapbook paper? They’re cute, useful and upcycled.
10. Mini Photo Album
If you’ve ever browsed through that file on your computer that has all of your family photos and thought, “I should really print some of those,” then now’s your chance. After you create an adorable mini photo album with scrapbook paper and poster board, then you can attach all of those pictures you’ve been meaning to print and have memories to treasure for years to come.
